Hash brown toast is a TikTok favorite that's here to stay.

Sure, we'll always love a classic piece of toast for breakfast, but TikTok has taken things up a notch with a simple spin on the breakfast favorite: using hash brown patties in place of bread. Whether you air fry, bake, or cook them in a skillet, crispy hash brown patties offer an irresistible crunch and salty flavor that makes your everyday breakfast feel like a restaurant brunch special.

No matter how you top them, start by cooking the hash brown patties until golden and crispy. If you're using an air fryer, cook at 400 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through. If you're using a regular oven, bake at 450 degrees F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

From there, you can go any directions, but I want to share my latest favorite from a recipe by ambitiouskitchen on Instagram. As crazy as it sounds, it's absolutely delicious.

Top the hash brown patty with ½ tablespoon creamy peanut butter, drizzle on 2-3 teaspoons of pure maple syrup and sprinkle with flaky salt. But don't stop there. Next, top the whole creation with a fried egg. Finish the dish off with more flaky salt and some cracked black pepper, to taste.

I know this combination sounds insane, but it has become one of my new go-to breakfasts. This "toast" has the perfect balance of sweet and salty, thanks to peanut butter and maple syrup. Plus, the creamy, luscious egg yolk next to the crispy, crunchy potato patty creates a contrast of textures that is absolutely heavenly. Think every breakfast food you love, piled into one bite.

TikTok Hash Brown Toast Combinations

Crispy on the outside, tender in the middle, hash brown toast is a blank slate of breakfast (and lunch) possibilities, as well as a great option for gluten-free eaters. Bring the sweet heat with a hot honey halloumi topping, or keep things fresh with avocado, sliced tomato, and lemon. Since this TikTok trend has taken off, we've discovered countless ways to eat hash brown toast. Here are just a few of our favorite ideas to try.

Avocado and Egg

Prepare the hash brown patty, then mash ½ on avocado on top. Top with a fried egg, cracked black pepper, flaky salt, and red pepper flakes.

Cream Cheese and Bacon

Smear 1-2 tablespoons of softened cream cheese onto a cooked hash brown patty. Top with 2 strips of crispy bacon and a drizzle of Sriracha sauce.

Hot Honey Halloumi

In a heated skillet with 1 tablespoon oil, pan-fry a slice of halloumi cheese until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Top the hash brown patty with ½ of a sliced avocado, then place the halloumi on top. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with red pepper flakes and flaky salt.

Chorizo and Egg

Brown 6 ounces chorizo in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through. Transfer the chorizo to a cooked hash brown patty. Scramble 2 eggs and place on top of the chorizo. Finish with a tablespoon of shredded cheese.

Cheese and Garlic

Prepare the hash brown patty, then spread 1-2 tablespoons Trader Joe's Garlic Spread Dip on top. Sprinkle with ½ teaspoon garlic powder and ½ teaspoon dried basil. Take 5-6 mini mozzarella balls, cut them in half, and place evenly on top of the toast. Air fry at 400 degrees F for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the cheese melts. Garnish with fresh basil.

Pea and Goat Cheese

Mash ½ cup fresh green peas or frozen peas, thawed, and mix with 1 tablespoon goat cheese. Prepare the hash brown patty, then spread the pea mixture on top. In a skillet, fry bits of bacon or pancetta until crispy, then place onto the pea spread. Top with flaky seat salt, cracked black pepper, and a squeeze of lemon.

Avocado and Feta

Mash ½ of an avocado on top of a cooked hash brown patty. Top with flaky sea salt, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest, a handful of arugula, and 1-2 tablespoons crumbled feta cheese. Drizzle with hot honey.
